If you suffer from head, facial, jaw and/or tooth pain, you may be suffering MFPD (myofascial pain dysfunction) also sometimes known as TMJ. The team at Dr. Berlin’s clinic has considerable experience in treating this problem and treatment will begin with an evaluation of the facial muscle exam.
The Cause of Jaw/Facial Pain (MFPD)
Myofascial Pain Dysfunction (MFPD) is a pain syndrome caused by muscle knots, also known as trigger points. These trigger points can refer pain to other locations. This pain may manifest itself as headache, jaw pain, facial pain, and dental tooth ache. We diagnose this problem by palpating the individual muscles of the face in order to determine if trigger points are present and are causing pain and discomfort. If such a diagnosis is made, there are several treatments that can be recommended.
